Happy Thanksgiving! To celebrate the holiday me and my companion cooked chicken and mashed potatoes for our house. We also made an apple cinamon cake. This week was also Elder Cummings birthday, and Elder Herd and I surprised him by buying a cake and bringing out the night of his birthday.
In terms of missionary work this week was amazing. We are whitewashing this area and for those that don”t know it means we are both brand new to the area and know nothing about it. Anyways our focus is on finding new families that will progress. This past week we found 9 new families and 4 of them came to church. I will just talk about one of them I am really excited for. Their names are Candido and Naneezia (not actually spelt like that). He was a road contact we made on Tuesday who was really nice. Anyways we called him wednesday and He said he was at work so we marked for thursday. Thursday morning at 7:30 our phone rings and he is calling us asking when we would get there. We said at 3 in the afternoon. Then at 12 he calls again making sure we are still coming at 3. We finally get there and he and his wife are the nicest people in the world. We taught the restoration and they accepted everything without doubts. They accepted baptism and came to church this sunday. They told us they loved it and would never miss. We are visitng them tonight to teach them more about the gospel. It”s such a blessing when we meet the families that are really prepared by the Lord. Its just this refreshing feeling after sifting through the people that will sit with us and then not accept to just find the people ready for the gospel. Love you all. Hope you have a good week.
So I am back in the Matola zone. For those that don’t know I started in the branch of Matola 1. I stayed there for 6 months and then went up to Quelimane for 3 months. And now I’m Back! I never thought I would come back to the Matola zone. I am now serving in the branch of T-3 and my companion is Elder Cummings. We have an awesome house. We live with Elder Herd from Wyoming (he reminds me of Ben Schilaty in every way), Elder Paulino who was a professional soccer player in Beira, Elder Tuigamala from Hawaii and Elder Pedro from Beira. Its a super nice house and the area is way nice. Elder Cummings and I are whitewashing this area and so we have gotten lost at least 1 time a day. We’ll get to some road and one of us will be like where are we Elder and the other just says no idea. Since our time here we have gotten to walk through a military base, a prison, and a jungle just trying to find our way out to the main road. Some of the families we are teaching are Francisco and Olga who will get married on Christmas, Nerves and Mercia who we will give a date to this week, and others. we have been working really hard on finding and trying to get good solid families to teach and baptize. Its a slow process but we are seeing success. Love you all I hope you have great weeks.
Separate email to his dad: Things are good. I am not in the same house as I started. I am actually really far from my first area. And Elder Reinstien is not here either. He is the new office Elder. He is in charge of the finances of the mission which is perfect for him. Thank you for your email last week. It did help put some things in perspective and give me a refresher as to why I am here. Things are going great. Elder Cummings is an amazing missionary and I am learning a lot about 1. How to be a missionary, and 2. how to be a leader. Its been an amazing week and I will be sad to see him go in 23 days. Our time together is short so I am trying to learn as much as possible from him. Tell mom she’s a bum for not writing me [Note: I sent him TWO emails; he just didn’t get them for some reason!!] and give everyone my love during thanksgiving.
Our week was good. We were blessed with a couple of baptisms. Other than that not a lot happened. I found out I am being transferred back to the city of Matola to serve in the branch of T-3. I am serving with Elder Cummings who has been the Assistant to the President since about April of this year. He is the new Branch President of T-3. I like Elder Cummings. He will be going home in five weeks (just before Christmas).

The branch of Quelimane
I will just get right into it. This past Friday we got a reference from a contact for this guy, so we called and marked with him for that night. We went there and all the people were staring at us, and I said to my comp that I don’t think they’d ever seen missionaries before. He agreed. Then the man came and met us and was really happy and nice. Then as he was taking us to his house he started calling all his neighbors and friends from the road inviting them to sit with us as well. We ended up sitting with 5 new families and all of their children as well. It was crazy and we marked to go back again this week. We are really excited about each of these families. Luckily we had a family night later that night so we had our cameras and I got to take a picture with everyone that was their it was awesome.
Teaching 5 families at once in Quelimane
Then later that night we did a family night with our branch president and his wife , and we brought Soriar and Juina who are working on oopening the marriage process to be married and baptized this upcoming month. It was a lot of fun and we talked about temples since President and Sister Mbunda are the only family in this branch that has gone to the temple. It was a good lesson and Soriar and Juina are pumped to start preparing for the temple as soon as they are baptized. Other than that not much craziness has happened this week. Today is the last p-day of the transfer and then we find out if I saty in Quelimane or not. I hope you all have a good week.

Here’s Nate’s birthday email to his sister:
I am so sorry. I completely forgot to write you last week and wish you happy birthday. I hope that you enjoyed the rite of passage called party included with the entrance into your 26th year. I apologize for my lack of presence but my mission president thought it would be a waste of $3000 to fly me home and back just for your 26th birthday. I fought like a lion to convince him but he just sent be back to Quelimane to suffer in the heat. Maybe this next mission president we get in July will be a little more cooperative and understanding but no garuntees. Once again please forgive me and tell Hamilton I will probably forget his birthday too. Catch you on the flip side chap lip.
